NDC Sets Up Committee to Probe Alleged Vote Buying in Ayawaso East Primary
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a committee to investigate allegations of vote buying that emerged during its recent parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East constituency.
In a statement issued by the party leadership, the NDC condemned all forms of inducement and actions that undermine internal democracy, stressing that the party remains committed to fairness, transparency, and discipline in its electoral processes. The committee has been tasked to thoroughly examine reports and videos circulating on social media, as well as accounts from delegates and party officials present at the primary.
According to the NDC, any member found culpable after the investigations will face appropriate sanctions in line with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures. The party emphasized that it will not shield anyone if the allegations are proven to be true.
The Ayawaso East primary, which was keenly contested, has generated widespread public discussion following claims that some delegates were induced with gifts to influence their votes. The controversy has sparked calls from sections of the public and civil society for stronger action against vote buying, even within internal party elections.
By setting up the committee, the NDC says it aims to protect the credibility of its internal processes and send a clear signal that unethical conduct will not be tolerated as the party prepares for upcoming national elections.
The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the party leadership in the coming days.
